Graduate Essay

Life in Japan

I was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. When I was in my home country, I was passive and had difficulty deciding on my future path. After graduating from university, I wanted to study abroad but wasn’t sure where to go.

After consulting with various people and hearing their opinions, I decided to study in Japan. I chose Japan because of its advanced technology and my desire to learn about cutting-edge techniques. So, I started studying Japanese.

Japanese is difficult but I find it interesting. Before coming to Japan, I didn’t know what life here would be like and was a bit worried. However, the support from friends and seniors reassured me.

When I first arrived in Japan, I was impressed by the beauty of the towns. The cleanliness, with no garbage on the streets, and the fresh air made a deep impression on me. I thought Japan was a wonderful country.

But my feelings began to change slightly after starting a newspaper delivery job. The job required early mornings, had few days off, more work when it rained, and the unfamiliar work was stressful. Also, studying Japanese became increasingly difficult. I had to remember many words and grammar rules daily, and there were many tests. The stress continued to build.

Now, I have become much more accustomed to the language and culture. I’ve made friends and have started to enjoy life in Japan, which has helped reduce my stress. I look forward to continuing to enjoy my life as an international student.
