To My Future Self
Good morning. I am you from 10 years ago. How are you? Are you still alive, and how is the future? Is it fun? I have a lot of things I want to ask you, so let’s just talk a bit.
Where are you now? Are you still in Japan, by any chance? Well, it’s possible. Is Japan that fun? I think that’s good, but you should go back to Indonesia, back to Bali.
So, what are you doing now? Are you still delivering newspapers? If so, that’s incredible. It’s great that you’ve continued such a tough job. But you should look for other work. That job is tough, has no breaks, and leaves little time for sleep, so find something easier with more rest. You like to rest, right? You like to sleep, right? Well, whatever the job, just don’t become a NEET.
I’m also really curious about something. Are you still dating her? I think it would be good if you are still together. Remember how nervous you were when you were introduced to her mother? I know you always get nervous when talking to people you meet for the first time. Is it still the same now? Well, that won’t be easy to change. Oh, and have you gotten married? Do you have kids? It’s okay if you still don’t have kids or aren’t married yet. You at 23 aren’t even thinking about that. Don’t rush, take your time to think about it.
Are you still reading manga? Still watching anime? Still interested in Japan? I intend to continue that for a lifetime. Someday, I want to introduce the manga I read and the anime I watched to my children. They were all interesting.
By the way, are you still studying Japanese? Have you improved? I want to apologize for that. I always wanted to get better at Japanese, from my university days until studying in Japan, but I didn’t study at all and just wasted time playing around. I’m sorry. You reading this letter now can probably tell, even though I’m in the N1 class, I speak like I’m in a beginner class. So, I want to work harder from now on. I’m tired of always being bad. I want to pass N1. I want to speak Japanese fluently. I want to read novels in Japanese, so I’ll do my best!
Lastly, I’m younger than you now, but can I give a little advice? What job are you doing now? I don’t know what job you’re doing, but you should do what you want to do. It doesn’t matter what others say. It’s okay if the salary is low. Make sure you do what you want and have no regrets! Stay healthy.
