When I First Came to Japan
Everyone, when you first came to Japan, how did you feel? What kind of country is Japan? Now, I want to write about my feelings when I first came to Japan.
Before coming to Japan, when I studied at a Japanese language school in Vietnam, my Japanese teacher taught us about Japan’s image. But when I came to Japan, I was surprised because the image of Japan was a little different.
The first experience was when I arrived at the airport in Japan. Despite the crowd, it was quiet. You can hardly hear car noises on the roads. And they follow traffic rules very strictly.
In Japan, you often hear phrases like ‘Good morning,’ ‘Good afternoon,’ and ‘Thank you very much,’ anywhere and anytime. Japanese people greet each other a lot. I think they have good manners.
What surprised me the most was the way they handle garbage. Even though there are no trash bins on the streets in Japan, the streets look clean. I heard that you have to take your own garbage home. But when you find a trash bin, you have to sort the garbage. I was confused when sorting garbage. At that time, Japanese people taught me. There are various types of garbage, such as paper, burnable trash, cans, and plastics.
Furthermore, there is the culture of queuing. At stations, supermarkets, and other places used by many people, everyone always forms long lines and waits. I think it’s a good habit.
Everyone, what were your thoughts about Japan when you first came here? Now that you are living in Japan, I think it is good to learn various habits and cultures. It will be useful for your future work.
