Favorite Japanese word
I would like to write about my favorite Japanese words.
The first word is ‘sumimasen’ (I’m sorry). Since coming to Japan, I have often heard the word ‘sumimasen.’ For example, people use this word when passing through a narrow space where someone is standing and looking at something. In Vietnam, people just pass by without saying anything. Sometimes they bump into someone coming from the opposite direction. That’s why I like this word.
The second word I like is ‘arigatou gozaimasu’ (thank you). When I deliver newspapers and meet customers in front of their homes, I hand the newspapers directly instead of putting them in the mailbox. The customers often say ‘arigatou gozaimasu.’ Hearing ‘thank you’ makes me feel good and very happy.
The third word is ‘otsukaresama deshita’ (good work). After work, everyone says ‘otsukaresama deshita.’ Every time I hear this word, it feels like my fatigue diminishes a little.
These are my favorite Japanese words. I believe anyone who hears such beautiful words will feel that everything around them in life becomes more beautiful.
