What I Learned While Studying in Japan

My part-time job in Japan was delivering newspapers. My senior at work was Japanese. When I started the job, my Japanese wasn’t very good, and I couldn’t converse much. Additionally, I wasn’t used to the new environment and working hours, which led to me making mistakes even when my senior taught me. Since my senior was short-tempered, I got scolded loudly every day. This made me anxious during work, and I would cry thinking about having to work with them in just 5 hours before going to sleep.
For those who have experience with part-time jobs, this stress might seem trivial, but since I came to Japan right after graduating high school, I had never worked before. Therefore, making mistakes and being scolded by my senior was terrifying.
However, I made an effort not to repeat the same mistakes. On my days off, I went to the newspaper delivery area on my bike and took notes to remember the customers’ houses. I also noted the characteristics of each house. As a result, I made fewer mistakes, and I became able to handle the job mostly. My senior was surprised by my progress. After two weeks, I got used to the job.
When I was in Vietnam, I had bad living habits and didn’t care much about my health. But after starting to live alone in Japan, I reflected that health is the most important thing. Since then, I started paying attention to my diet and sleep hours. I’m also getting better at cooking, which makes me very happy.
I lived with my family in Vietnam and being the youngest, my family always pampered me, leading to my spoiled character. However, in Japan, I had to live with friends. To live smoothly, I learned various things like being patient, speaking kindly, and being considerate of friends.
Living alone in Japan is really tough, but I learned many things and became able to solve problems by myself. Compared to when I was in Vietnam, I think I have grown significantly. I’m glad I studied in Japan.
