Graduate Essay

What do you like?

What image comes to mind when you hear the word ‘love’? Many people probably associate it with a feeling of happiness. What people ‘love’ varies from person to person, but I believe ‘love’ leads to hobbies.
As a child, I loved watching anime. There were TV shows on Sundays that exclusively broadcasted anime. Anime is obviously aimed at children, so the stories are easy to understand, and the drawings are cute, which led to me spending the whole day watching TV. Even when I became an elementary school student, I continued watching anime, which caused my grades to drop and led to scolding from my parents.
Even as a middle school student, I watched a lot of anime, but my grades gradually improved. I think this is because I became accustomed to managing my time.
As I grew older, my ‘likes’ slowly changed. Recently, thanks to my work colleagues, I’ve started to like new things. ‘Stress’ is inherent in work. I think many people feel like returning to their childhood when stress and fatigue accumulate. That’s when it’s important to relieve stress. Encouraged by my colleagues, I decided to try karaoke. There, I discovered the joy of karaoke.
Until then, I had never been to karaoke, but I decided to participate to get along better with my colleagues. Initially, I didn’t understand why karaoke was fun, but once I tried it, I understood. It’s reassuring to be in a karaoke room where you can shout and yell as much as you want. Even if you are stressed from work, it feels good to let out a loud voice. Even if you’re not good at singing, I think it’s important to sing with a smile.
Of course, everyone has their own way of enjoying things. When you’re doing what you like, it’s fun and easy to lose track of time, but you shouldn’t forget time management.
It’s fine to have as many things as you like. What you liked as a child and what you like now are probably different. No matter what other people say, you don’t need to worry. Cherish your own ‘likes’.
