Graduate Essay

To My Juniors,

Hello everyone, have you gotten used to life in Japan? Are you enjoying it? Before I graduate, I want to share my experiences of living in Japan with all of you.

Before coming to Japan, you might have imagined what life here would be like. You may have heard things like “Japanese people are strict and cold” or “Life in Japan is lonely”, but also “Japan has beautiful scenery, delicious food, and is convenient.” Hearing these things, some of you might have been excited about living in Japan, while others may have been worried.

It’s been two years since I came to Japan. Time has flown by. During this time, I’ve experienced hardships, sour moments, sweet times, and a lot of fun. I’ve truly had a wide range of experiences.

Two years ago, I arrived in a completely unfamiliar Japan and started my life here. Everything around me was new, and I had never experienced living alone before.

The first six months of my study abroad were tough, being away from family and friends, feeling lonely. I studied and worked hard to quickly adapt to life in Japan. As my Japanese improved, I was able to solve problems and navigate life more smoothly.

The loneliness of living alone was challenging, but with encouragement from teachers and the warm acceptance by many Japanese people, I started feeling like I could manage living in Japan. Living in a country with a different culture and mindset allowed me to reflect on myself and grow.

When you face difficulties, remember your family. When you feel lonely or lose motivation, think about why you came to Japan and who you are striving for. And please, never give up.

People often tell me, “Why are you always so positive?”, “You seem to have no worries” or “You’re always bright and seem to be having fun.” That’s because I always think positively and stay smiling. Although working and studying every day is tough, I enjoy it. I always smile and make friends at work and school.

Of course, studying is most important, but when you have time, participate in cultural exchanges, learn to cook Japanese food, and so on. This will help you forget loneliness and gradually understand Japan better. Look around and make friends with Japanese people.

What I want to convey the most is to take care of your health, think positively, and work hard towards your goals. Make lots of friends during your time in Japan, have

fun, and gain many good experiences.
