A Letter to the Future

To the future Boo,
Good morning, future Boo. I’m Boo at 23 years old, reading this letter. Are you doing well? Where are you working? Have you found a lover? Are you living happily?

At 23, most people would have graduated from university and be working in a stable job. But, I am still studying at a Japanese language school and plan to go to a vocational school after graduating in March next year.

I thought it would be fine to just go to school and work part-time, but I recently had a terrible experience with personal relationships. I’m someone who doesn’t dwell much on the past or future, but I had to rethink about myself. I learned about “growth”. After studying for three years at a university in Ho Chi Minh, studying abroad, and passing N2 and vocational school, I thought my life was a success. But I was wrong.

Actually, it’s not the first time I’ve had such a bad experience, but this time, I felt more down than ever. I asked the other person “Why? Why did you do such a thing to me?” so many times. But asking “why” only made the situation worse, so I stopped asking such questions. However, that was unfortunate. Avoiding reality was not the right thing. Now, I don’t know what to do about this terrible problem. In fact, asking “why” is not a bad thing. So, instead of asking others, I asked myself questions like “Why am I always so prone to getting upset?”, “Why am I always in a hurry?”, “Why did I fail?” and I could answer them. But the most important answer is a secret between me and the future Boo. Only we know the answer.

So, from today, please stay calm, reflect on yourself, and learn how to interact with people around you. There might be times when you feel lonely, but it’s okay. Don’t fear loneliness; if you think calmly, you won’t feel as lonely. You have your father, mother, and brother by your side. But this is Japan. If you feel too lonely to bear, let’s go for a drink.

But remember, running away is not good. Solve problems like a man. Improve not just physically, but also intellectually and mentally. Don’t give up. The most important thing is to be happy. Don’t forget that. Let’s do our best, future Boo.

Good luck.
From 23-year-old Boo.
