Graduate Essay

To my friends at Sumiyoshi International Japanese Language School!

“Hello everyone! How are you? By the time you are reading this letter, I am sure you all have graduated. I can’t imagine anyone not being able to graduate. Some of you might be advancing to further studies, getting a job, or returning to your home country, but how is life now? It’s tough to get used to a new environment, isn’t it? Though busy every day, please occasionally remember Sumiyoshi Japanese Language School. I will never forget the school where I studied Japanese for two years and all of you, my friends. Therefore, I hope you won’t forget the school and me either. Some people think I always look cheerful and smiling, so I must have many friends, but that’s not true. I am afraid and not good at going to new places or trying new things. Naturally, I’m not good at making friends either. So, I hope the friends I have now will always remain good friends. I want to cherish my current friends. Before coming to Japan, I had many worries. I thought about having no family or friends in Japan and not understanding Japanese. What should I do? But wanting to overcome my fear, I bravely decided to come to Japan.I was very lucky. You, the Asahi scholarship students from Vietnam, came to Japan with me, and we all ended up attending Sumiyoshi Japanese Language School, which was a relief. When I first arrived in Japan and couldn’t understand Japanese at all, I was lucky to have Phong, Mai, Minh, Tan, and Chun, who always encouraged me and supported me. I missed my family and wanted to return to Vietnam. I was grateful for meeting Uot and Bu at the school, who were older than me and gave me advice when I was in trouble. Of course, not just the people named above, but friends from N1, N2, and N3 classes were all great. Going out, cooking, and talking with them after school and work are unforgettable memories for me. Especially, I am incredibly thankful to Chin, who always stayed by my side and pampered me like a child, and my best friend Lin. I am so grateful to have met both of you. I think everyone will go to new places and make new friends, but I hope you won’t forget Sumiyoshi Japanese Language School, the teachers who were like parents to us for two years, teaching not only Japanese but many things, and your friends. I wish you all happiness always. Even when things are tough, don’t give up and keep working towards the future! With lots of love, Buta!”
