To Myself Five Years from Now

Hello.
How are you doing? Are you happy? What are you up to right now? Are you still working at Kyoudou En? It’s been five years, and I want to thank you for your hard work and perseverance through all the challenges. How’s your job now? You’ve probably become a full-time employee, which must be quite demanding. But don’t worry, you’ve got this. Keep pushing forward.

Are the customers still doing well? Lately, everyone seems to catch colds often, so please take care as always. Mr. Tezuka is still in the hospital; it’s worrisome. Also, yesterday was Mr. Jisseki’s birthday. He smiled and talked to me for the first time. It made me happy.

Recently, both work and studying have been tough for me. I need to pass the N2 exam in December. There are tests at work too. If I don’t pass, my salary won’t increase, so I have to do my best. The stress is building up, but I’ll persevere for the future.

How’s your life going? Are you living alone now? You’re probably enjoying more freedom than I do. You don’t have the stress of studying, right? Do you go out and have fun on weekends?

Do you remember our dreams? Have you traveled anywhere in Japan? Have you been to Hokkaido or Tokyo yet? Have you climbed Mount Fuji? If you haven’t, please go as soon as possible. Please, just once…

How’s your savings going? Have you saved a lot? Did you have enough for your trip to China? Egypt too. Don’t forget. Laughs, laughs. It must be exciting. I hope time is flying for you.

Do you have a significant other now? If you don’t, don’t bother looking for one. Being single is always the best, isn’t it? If you do, it’s okay to get married when your job is stable.

You still have one more year to work in Japan, right? Have you decided what to do after that? Whether to return to your home country or stay a little longer in Japan? It’s a tough decision, but there’s no choice. I trust you with it.

Well, I want to finish this letter now. Thank you for always holding onto our dreams. I’ll work harder from now on. Please keep up the good work too. Take care.

From the me of five years ago.
