Gradually Growing Me

Let me tell you my story. Twenty years ago, I was a very active kindergarten student. During nap time, I often pretended to sleep and talked with my friends or played with toys. Sometimes, I would climb trees or catch insects and tease the annoying kids. That cheerful version of me gradually became uncomfortable with interacting with people. Upon reflection, the cause of this change was probably when my class changed. When I moved up to middle school, all my childhood friends were placed in Class D, while I ended up in Class C. Losing the friends I had grown up with and being surrounded by classmates I didn’t know made me feel lonely. Everyone seemed to be having a great time talking, and while I hesitated to approach them, I couldn’t bring myself to say a single word. After that, I spent most of my middle school life feeling isolated. When I entered high school, I found myself in a new class again. Since none of my new classmates knew me, I thought it might be a fresh start. School was quite far from home, so I started living in the dormitory. Every day, as I went to school with my dorm mates, ate together, and talked, my shyness gradually faded, and I began to laugh more. Although I still struggled with relating to my classmates, it was a significant change for me. As I entered college, I had many opportunities to meet new people. I couldn’t keep worrying my parents forever, and the upcoming job hunt was going to be tough. I kept telling myself that I needed to move forward. Originally a plain person, I slowly changed my hairstyle and style, and I interacted with everyone with a positive image. Thanks to the kindness of everyone around me, I gained confidence and made many friends. Now, I am studying abroad in Japan. There have been times when I felt nervous and embarrassed, with my face turning bright red when speaking in front of others or giving presentations. However, I can still convey what I want to say. I believe this is thanks to my teachers. While not all of my words may fully communicate in Japanese, my teachers always teach and support me enthusiastically. Their encouragement has become a source of strength for me. I will continue to study hard, find a good job, and strive to become a source of pride for my teachers. Please continue to watch over my growth.
